Communications Administrator

Hours: 15 hours per week, including mandatory office-based hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10am to 1pm, when the office is open to the public. Remaining hours to be agreed. Additional paid hours are required for events and evening meetings outside of core working hours.

Location: Pembury, Kent

Salary: £27,250 – £29,000 pro rata dependent on experience


We are recruiting a pro-active Communications Administrator to join our friendly, hard-working and flexible team based in the Parish Office in Pembury. This might be the role for you if you can deal with multiple projects, have a strong community focus and great communication skills.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design, copy write, proofread, and coordinate our popular quarterly newsletter
  • Create engaging content for our website, social media, newsletters and noticeboards
  • Help organise and support our community events
  • Be the first point of contact for residents – by phone, email, in person, or on social media
  • Support key Council projects and contribute to improving local services
  • Attend occasional meetings and prepare minutes (training provided)

What we’re looking for:

You’ll need to be:

  • A confident communicator – written and verbal
  • Highly organised with a keen eye for detail
  • Friendly, helpful, and able to deal with a wide range of people
  • Comfortable working on your own initiative and as part of a team
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel), Canva or InDesign and familiar with social media platforms
  • Experience in digital communications, newsletter production, and websites is desirable

What we offer:

  • Salary between £27,250 to £29,000 pro rata dependent on skills, experience and qualifications.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays pro rata rising to 28 days per year after 5 years’ service.
