Large beech tree at Woodside Road Allotments to be felled

One of our trees, a large beech tree, on the boundary of Woodside Road allotments has been found to have significant decay due to Ganoderma.

We have taken advice and have come to the difficult decision to fell a substantial amount of the tree to create a monolith to ensure the safety of the public. A monolith is where the entire crown (all the main branches) is removed leaving the main trunk.

Monolithic trees are an alternative to felling which creates a great wildlife habitat.

In order that the work can be undertaken safely, Woodside Road will be closed to traffic. The works are scheduled for 24 August 2021.
